Music Machine 4 uses
the 14 cells of music
from Music Machine 3 and selects and plays each cell according to the
following rules.
There are 25 cells to choose from.
These
are the original 14 from Music Machine 3, cells 1 and 8 transposed up
1, 2 and 3 octaves and transposed down 1 and 2 octaves
and one
cell of silence. The selection process is weighted so that there is a 5
in 83 chance of one of the original 14 cells being chosen
(approximately
84% chance), a 1 in 83 chance of a transposed cell (approximately 12%)
and a 3 in 83 chance of silence (approximately 4%).
The volume of the cell each time it is played is chosen within the
range 30 to 100 in steps of 10.
Similarly
the stereo position of the cell each time it is played is chosen within
the range -100 (left) to 100 (right) in steps of 10.
The length
of the silence is either 0.17, 0.34, 0.68 or 1.36 seconds (the length
of a quaver, a crotchet, a minim and a semibreve
at 176 bpm (the tempo of the original piece)).
The machine will run indefinitely until stopped by the user.
